Grits

INGREDIENTS
    • About 1 cup water
    • Dash of salt
    • 3 T grits
    • Margarine
    • Salt and pepper

METHOD
Bring water with a dash of salt to boiling, and add grits. Cook until really thick - lumps are appreciated. Spoon onto plate. Add margarine salt and pepper to taste. If you know of any good fake cheddar cheese add a bit and stir it in to melt.

NOTES
This is about as authentic as you are going to get.

For the benefit of those of us who do not live in the USA, could you explain what grits are/is please?

grits are cooked corn or hominy meal.. in italian cooking they're referred to as polenta.
