Oakland Baked Beans

INGREDIENTS
    • 1 lb / 450 g great northern beans
    • 1 T sea salt
    • 4 T oil
    • 1 cup tomato sauce
    • 3 T molasses
    • 1 huge onion, slightly peeled but left whole
    • 6 T maple syrup

METHOD
Simmer the beans in enough water to cover them, until tender. Drain off most of the liquid and mix all the ingredients in a big casserole dish, except the onion. Place the onion in the center, shoving it under the beans. Cover the dish with some tin foil and bake at 350F/180C for two hours, better 3-4 hours. Remove the onion before you serve.

This is a good dish to serve with tofu pups or soy burgers.
