Gomashio (Sesame Salt)

Condiments - Seasoning - Make this your favorite recipe - Upload a new picture for this recipe

INGREDIENTS
    • 2 t sea salt
    • 5 T white or black sesame seeds

METHOD
Roast salt in a heavy skillet for about one minute, stirring constantly, then add the sesame seeds & roast until done - these roast really quickly and can burn just as fast. In a hand mill or suribachi (serrated mortar) grind the mixture & store in an airtight container

NOTES
Have you tried gomashio? It's spelled a number of ways. It's a mixture of sea salt & sesame seeds which is traditionally sprinkled onto sushi prior to rolling... I've had it with ground sesame seeds which I prefer & whole seeds. You can buy it pre-mixed or make it yourself.

Here's a recipe from 'The Book of Tofu'.
